Ayurvedic Weight Gain Tips: Though there are so many options available in the market that claim quick weight gain, they may not always be good for your health. However, Ayurveda offers a natural and safe way to gain weight. It focuses on balancing the body’s three key elements i.e., Vata, Pitta, and Kapha to improve overall health. With Ayurvedic tips, one can gradually gain weight in a healthy way that suits your body’s needs, ensuring long-term wellness without harmful side effects. We got in touch with Dr Pradeep Shrivastava Ayurvedic expert, Krishna's herbal and Ayurveda who shares effective tips to gain weight healthily.
Increase Your Calorie Intake:
Dr Pradeep Shrivastava explains one of the basic principles for gaining weight is to consume more calories than you burn. Ayurveda recommends increasing your calorie intake with nutrient-dense foods that are easy to digest and align with your dosha balance. Incorporate healthy fats like ghee, nuts, and seeds into your meals as they are high in calories and nourishing. Including whole grains like rice and oats can provide the necessary carbohydrates to fuel your body, promoting healthy weight gain without causing digestive issues.
Eat Small Meals A Day:
Dr Pradeep shares that rather than consuming three large meals, Ayurveda suggests eating smaller and more frequent meals throughout the day. This approach helps maintain steady energy levels and supports healthy digestion, which is important for gaining weight. Eating smaller meals also prevents the body from feeling overwhelmed, allowing it to properly absorb and utilize nutrients. Include snacks like dried fruits, yogurt, and energy-dense Ayurvedic sweets like laddoos made with ingredients such as jaggery and sesame seeds to keep your calorie intake high without compromising on health.
Include Ayurvedic Herbs In Your Diet:
Ayurvedic herbs are powerful ingredients in your journey to gain weight. Dr Pradeep shares herbs like Ashwagandha, Shatavari, Gokshura, and many more are known for their ability to enhance strength, build muscle mass, and improve overall vitality. “For example, Ashwagandha is an adaptogen that helps the body manage stress while promoting muscle growth. Shatavari is excellent for balancing Pitta and Vata doshas while supporting the reproductive system and helping in weight gain. Gokshura, on the other hand, is known for boosting energy and endurance, making it easier to engage in regular exercise,” he said.
Exercise Regularly:
While diet plays a crucial role, regular exercise is equally important for healthy weight gain, Dr Pradeep explains. Ayurveda recommends incorporating strength training exercises that help build muscle mass and improve overall strength. Weight lifting, resistance training, and even yoga pose like Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose) and Virabhadrasana (Warrior Pose) are beneficial. These exercises not only help you gain weight but also improve your body’s tone and flexibility.
Prioritize Rest and Sleep:
Rest and sleep are often overlooked but are crucial for healthy weight gain. Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of getting enough sleep to allow the body to repair and rejuvenate. During sleep, the body undergoes processes that are essential for muscle growth and weight gain. Dr Pradeep recommends sleeping for 7-8 hours of quality sleep each night and considers incorporating relaxation techniques such as meditation or deep breathing exercises to improve sleep quality.
