In India, face yoga is becoming a celebrity's favourite these days. Celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Victoria Beckham, Jacqueline Fernandez, Malaika Arora, and Alaya F are practising this technique. They include face yoga in their daily routines and attribute their radiant skin and defined jawlines to such practice. Apart from them, social media is full of influencers and wellness enthusiasts who are doing face yoga to target their skincare and anti-ageing elements to maintain their youthful, tones and radiant complexion. This yoga also concentrates on the 57 muscles present in your face and neck, unlike the traditional workouts which only focus on the body muscles.
What Is Face Yoga?
Face yoga is a series of facial exercises, massage techniques, and movements that tone facial muscles, improve circulation, and nurture skin health. Though face yoga gives you a celebrity-like jawline, it has numerous other benefits. We got in touch with Indira Chavva, Fitness Expert, Cult who shares the benefits of face yoga and which exercises you can add to your daily routine:
• Face yoga is a perfect natural solution for ageing problems as it reduces wrinkles, enhances skin resilience, and gives the face a firmer, more youthful appearance.
• Face yoga stimulates blood flow promoting a healthy, glowing face.
• The exercises include gentle massage techniques that relieve facial tension and reduce puffiness.
• Face yoga improves facial contours as it works around specific muscles, like droopy eyelids or sculpting cheekbones.
Face Exercises To Add To Your Daily Routine:
Indira shares some exercises that you can incorporate daily into your fitness regime:
The Fish Face
One can start their way to face yoga by doing fish face, which is a simple exercise. The fish face yoga mimics a fish’s expression and engages the muscles in your cheeks and jawlines.
How To Do It?
- Release any tension by taking deep breaths
- Suck in your cheeks, thereby creating hollows on both sides of your face
- Pout your lips outward like mimicking a fish’s pout
- Hold the pose for 5-10 seconds
The Cheek Lifter
This exercise particularly targets the cheek muscles and helps lift and tone the mid-face area. This prevents any sagging of the face and gives a more youthful experience.
How To Do It?
- Make an ‘O’ shape with your open mouth
- Fold your lips over your teeth
- While keeping your lips in place smile widely
- Hold the same pose for 10 seconds
The Forehead Smoother
The forehead is designed to release tension from the forehead muscles, improve blood circulation and reduce frown lines. This exercise helps relax overactive muscles and any deeper creases that form over time.
How To Do It?
- Place both hands on your forehead.
- Spread fingers between eyebrows.
- Apply light pressure to your forehead using your fingertips.
- Slowly glide it outwards, towards your temples.
- Repeat it for 5-10 times.
The Eye Opener
The eye-opener strengthens and tones the muscles around the eyes. It helps in lifting the sagging eyelids while minimizing under-eye puffiness and improving overall circulation in the area.
How To Do It?
- Place your index fingers on your temples, right outside the corner of your eyes.
- Gently press your fingers upwards and slightly backward, lifting your skin.
- Open your eyes as wide as possible while keeping your forehead relaxed.
- Maintain the upward pressure with your fingers and blink rapidly for 10 seconds.
- Repeat it 5-10 times.
The Jawline Definer
This yoga is a form of targeted yoga for the muscles connecting your jaw to your collarbone. It tightens loose skin and improves muscle tone, giving you a chiselled jawline.
How To Do It?
- Tilt your head back while looking at the ceiling.
- Pucker your lips as if trying to kiss.
- Hold the position for 5-10 seconds.
- Repeat the exercise for 5-10 minutes.
