Cricket giant Virat Kohli’s actor wife Anushka Sharma shared some of the secrets of his unmatched fitness and health regime, which can serve as an inspiration for everyone. Kohli, credited for paving the way to a fitness-driven regime in the Indian cricket team, is known for not just his training routine but super healthy eating habits that have enabled him to get longevity in the sport.
According to Anushka, Kohli's incredible discipline has helped him sustain the pressure of playing cricket.
"Let me be very honest about it. Virat is incredibly disciplined about his health and fitness. I think this is also happening in our industry now. Every morning without fail, he is up early doing cardio or HIIT and practicing cricket with me. His diet is clean—no junk food or sugary drinks. Can you believe he hasn't eaten butter chicken in almost 10 years?" Anushka said in a video going viral on social media.
Apart from eating clean and training rigorously, Anushka said an eight-hour sleep is also non-negotiable for Kohli. "Sleep is non-negotiable for him. He ensures he gets enough rest. It's the key to staying sharp and performing at his best. He always says—that is something you have control over,” she added.
Why is butter chicken not considered healthy?
Butter chicken is an incredibly popular, creamy, and versatile curry dish with succulent and juicy pieces of chicken and mild spices. While it is a perfect comfort dish that can fill you right up when paired with bread or rice, nutritionists call it a nightmare.
Packed with saturated fat with cream and butter, just a bowl of butter chicken can really set you back – with a whopping 450 calories, 14 grams of carbs, and a staggering amount of fat at 28 grams. It also has around 12 grams of saturated fat. However, when it is served with bread like butter naans and rotis, you are looking at a caloric intake of close to 1300 calories in a single meal.
According to experts, butter chicken’s gravy is the second highest calorie contributor to this dish through carbs, which is not just unhealthy but adds nothing nutritionally. Moreover, restaurants also add a teaspoon or two of sugar to balance out the tanginess of the tomato gravy.
Saturated fats are the most harmful
Doctors say saturated fats in the dish are linked to a higher risk of heart disease. Various studies also say saturated fat intake increases heart disease risk factors, including LDL, or bad cholesterol and apolipoprotein B.
LDL is a type of protein that transports cholesterol through your bloodstream. Too much LDL can lead to plaque forming in your arteries, increasing your risk of several health conditions, including heart attacks and strokes.
Unstable blood sugar levels
According to doctors, butter chicken also has a high fat and high calorie content, which leads to insulin resistance and impairs glucose levels.
It also increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, as regular consumption of butter chicken causes unstable blood sugar levels.
