We often try to do a rigorous workout or follow an extreme diet plan when it comes to losing weight. But it's actually not that tough proves Fatloss coach Therese O'Callaghan who lost around 23 kgs. She recently took to her official Instagram handle where she shared 6 mindful things she doesn't do after losing weight to avoid weight gain and maintain it. Here’s what she doesn’t do:
No Food Restrictions
Therese admits she has struggled with her relationship with food, a challenge many face when trying to lose weight. However, she no longer restricts herself from eating certain foods. "The more you tell yourself you're 'not allowed' something, the more you crave it," she said. Instead, she practices moderation, following the 80/20 rule, where 80% of her meals are healthy, and 20 per cent can include the foods she enjoys, like doughnuts, pizza, or chocolate. This way, she can still make progress while enjoying her favourite treats.
Don’t Stress Over Extra Calories
Therese also emphasizes the importance of not stressing over small setbacks. If she eats more than her required calories or takes a break from her routine, she doesn’t panic. "I recognize that one day off won’t ruin my progress," she explained. She believes that it's not about the extra calories but how we respond to these moments. Allowing herself to enjoy life without guilt is key to staying on track in the long term.
Rest and Recovery Matter
For Therese, rest is just as important as exercise. She acknowledges that some days, her workout routine may fall behind due to other responsibilities. "I recognize that this is okay; I'm human, and some days, other priorities are more important," she said. Therese emphasizes that recovery is an essential part of any fitness journey, and it's okay if you don’t train every single day.
Enjoy Life’s Pleasures
Therese is also clear about not always eating perfectly healthy meals. She enjoys food that brings her joy, whether it’s burgers, cake, or a slice of pizza. "Food isn't just about calories; it's also about enjoyment, memories, and time with loved ones," she said. Therese is happy to embrace her body as it is, enjoying food while maintaining a healthy balance.
Don’t Expect Everyone to Understand
Therese also advises that not everyone will understand your weight loss journey. As you change your habits and lifestyle, people may not always support or understand the changes you’re making. She suggests focusing on your personal progress rather than seeking validation from others.
Embrace Your Own Journey
Lastly, Therese stresses the importance of not comparing your progress to others. "Everyone makes progress at different rates," she said. "What might take someone three months could take me six. And that's okay." For her, the key to success is staying focused on her own path and not worrying about how fast others are moving.
